Systemwide Concepts and Functions

This section will provide an understanding on the fundamental concepts of the imc Learning Suite that are consistent throughout the LMS that all users need to understand.

User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX)

The imc Learning Suite has a fully responsive HTML5 design for all Learner and Manager functions meaning the LMS can be used effectively on any device that has a supporting browser and the screen will automatically respond. Designed with a modern UI the LMS looks appealing and more importantly provides a simple intuitive UX for the untrained learner.

In addition to using a major browser supported by imc it is important that pop-up blockers are disa-bled in the browser for the LMS and that no compatibility mode settings are used. In terms of supported browsers imc look to support all current releases (and those within 12 months) for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Statuses and Colouring

The clever use of traffic light style colouring for various objects visually portrays learning statuses in a simple easy to digest manner where green is complete, orange is in progress and red indicating a non-completion.

Navigation

The top navigation enables users to move between different categorised menus and functions, including the ability to search for functions. The functional menus that are displayed are deter-mined by access rights granted to groups in which the logged in user is a member of. Should a menu have sub options there will be a downward facing arrow to indicate further options.

Access Rights Concept (Clearances)

Access control is governed by the "Clearances" function that regulates the level of access individual users, groups and clients have to any object, whether it be content, a catalogue, a report or users. Different types of objects contain varying clearance possibilities, but minimum available access rights on all objects would include Execute/View, Edit and Delete.

Clearances can be granted automatically by configured business rules or granted manually by administrators when objects are created. In the administrative functions views assigning access permissions to objects is possible via the ”Clearance” icon .

When creating an object, the creator receives full unrestricted clearance and when manually assigning clearances to other users the creator will only be able to select individual users and groups that they have clearance to view in the LMS.

Roles Concept

The imc Learning Suite is a role-based learning management system where users are assigned to roles (represented by groups) that provide privileges to both functions and objects. By default, all users have a "Learner" role, but to keep the navigation simple, a user that is assigned to more than just a "Learner"
role is able to toggle between roles by clicking the "Role switch" icon.

Any number of role-based groups can be configured with as little as one function to a system administrator group with access to all functions. When a user is assigned to multiple roles, they receive the sum of all access rights their assigned groups have access rights and clearance to.
