Catalogue Settings in Client Manager

  • On the first tab search parameters can be activated and set, E.g. if the learner is allowed to hide filters or not, as well as defining if course templates are shown within the results of a catalogue search or not. Here it is also possible to enable a manual sort function for the learner view and define the sort criteria. Moreover, it is possible to choose to display the syllabus button when opening courses only from catalogue (URL has the catalogue id) and it can be found under the name “Display syllabus button when opening course from catalogue“. The configuration will enable the capability to access the syllabus by pressing the button which will jump directly to the Syllabus as long as the course was opened from catalogues, regardless that it is directly, through a course template, or through a learning path, the description page will contain the button.

  • On the second tab the user can define which filters will be displayed for catalogue search, by activate or deactivate the "Visible" setting

Configuration Options

The dedicated configuration section for the catalogue can be accessed by selecting the settings button after choosing a client in the client manager:

Setting

What does the setting do?

Search via exact title

Only exact search entries are taken into account in the search, for example, if "course" is entered, only results that contain exactly this word are listed, "courses" would not be considered.

Search via pattern in search term

Search terms which are part of the entries are taken into account, for example, if "cour" is entered "Test Course" would be a match because it contains part of the search term.

Show indirectly assigned courses in the catalogue

Defines if the search results may contain indirectly added courses. Courses are considered added indirectly if only the corresponding course template is assigned to a catalog, not the course instance itself.

Show indirectly assigned courses if using the free text search

Defines whether search results should contain indirectly assigned courses, although the checkbox for "Show indirect assigned courses in the catalogue" is not activated. However, this setting is only effective if the user enters one or more search terms, otherwise this setting will have no effect.

Show indirectly assigned courses for multiple registration

Displays indirectly assigned courses when performing a search during the multi-user to multi-course enrolment

Display syllabus button when opening course from catalogue

This settings is activating an additional button on the course description if the learner has at least status ENROLLED on the course. The button offers the possibility to navigate directly to the syllabus. This is only available for courses and for users in learner context

Take into account the clearances for the display of catalogue content

If this setting is enabled, users of external applications (e.g. Learning Portal or mobile apps) must be able to view the catalogue folder in addition to the authorisation and have viewing rights for the respective catalogue content. It should be noted that it can take up to 30 minutes for this setting to be accepted.

Limit catalogue to assigned locations

If this setting is active, courses with a location will only be shown to the user if they are in a group which has this location assigned. This does not affect courses without a location. Please note that it takes at least 30 minutes for this setting to take effect and might only be visible after a delay.

Trigger auto-completion

Defines whether the auto-completion suggestion is used directly or only when selected

Filter

General Configurations Applicable to the Catalogue Filters

For each filter, we have the possibility to choose whether to display it or not.

It can also be specified whether, by using this filter, indirectly assigned courses should be displayed. Indirectly assigned courses are courses that have not been directly added to the catalogue, but are available via the course template that has been assigned in the catalogue. Even more, there is the option to define that the course template can be completely hidden.

The filters available in the sidebar section, which are more complex filters that allow the user to pick from a list of possible options, can be collapsed by default, so that the list of options for the different filters does not cause the need to scroll multiple times in order to find the right filter.

Possible Filters

  • New content

  • Top content

  • Free places available

  • Not enrolled

  • Free of charge

  • Available for enrolment
This quick facet allows the possibility to locate all the courses and learning paths that are directly available for enrollment.
    The following conditions are checked:

    • Self-registration is allowed based on the enrollment type of the course

    • Self-registration begins/ends within time frame

    • Start/end date within time frame

    • Planning status: Released

    • Disable registration for learner meta tag

In order to obtain the courses and learning paths available for enrollment where the user does not already have a status, this quick filter can be used in combination with the "Not enrolled" quick filter.

Classification settings

General configurations applicable to the catalogue classifications settings

For each client, we have the possibility to choose which classification to display and in which order. The defined settings will be displayed for the learners accordingly.

It can be also specified whether to display the whole Classification folder or only part of it, meaning that for several sub-categories the administrator can decide if they are relevant to the learners or not. In case they are relevant, they can be enabled via the Enabled column. If they are not considered relevant for learners, they can be simply deactivated from the same Enabled column.

It is mandatory to have the main folder of the classifications enabled to have them displayed accordingly in the catalogue.

Permissions apply and are adjusted accordingly for each learner, meaning that if the learner does not have permission for a specific classification, it will not be displayed.

The administrator can add additional classifications or remove the ones which are not relevant anymore.

As a default, the classifications settings are not defined, and administrator needs to define them if the displayed classifications or the order are not relevant.

The client setting is defining the visibility and the order only. The functionality of how the classifications are working is as before.

The new setting is cookie-based session functionality. The cookies need to be deleted so that the correct information from the client settings is displayed for the learners.
