Locations are important elements that can be assigned to many objects to describe either where a training is being delivered or where an object is located. These reusable objects can be structured and contain many fields for providing learners with detailed information. The available fields include name, description, address information, contact details, map links, and file attachments (e.g. directions, forms).
The meta tag "Location" (ID 10097) can be assigned to courses, learning paths, media, groups and resources. The locations that are to be made available can be created and customized in the location manager. They include address information and, if applicable, contact individuals and file attachments (e.g. directions). Locations are managed in a structure, i.e., subunits (e.g. cities) are located in a common folder (e.g. a country).
Catalogues can also be filtered by location which makes them very useful for searching for training.

Functions of the Location Manager
New
Locations can be used to indicate the place where a presence training is taking place. The location manager provides a hierarchical structure for nesting locations. It is possible to tag content and groups with locations and limit the catalogue to display only training in the locations assigned to the group the user belongs to.
Structure & Hierarchy
Locations can be created hierarchically (parent/child nodes, e.g., country → city → building → room). The path is determined based on the parent structure; the active status is also inherited through this structure.

A main location can be defined just as structural element by activating “Folder is visible, but may not be selected as a location. It only serves structural purposes” means those can’t be selected when adding a location e.g. to a course.

Avetmiss
In case Avetmiss is configured (only available for Australian customers). The follwoing extra fields are availble:

Include in AVETMISS Reporting: This setting would enable this location for AVETMISS recording purposes.
In the Address section the following fileds are listed:

Here, resources (e.g., rooms, devices) are assigned to the location, which can be enrolled for in-person events at that location. Resources can be added or removed using a pop-up search; assignment is only possible if the location is marked as “selectable.”

Clearances are once again important to ensure administrators can access existing locations to avoid duplication, and learners can search by location.
Control who can create and edit what in the location manager
The clearance on objects in the location manager can be controlled granularly to allow certain users access only to certain locations. This allows a scenario to be set up in which users can manage certain sub-locations independently without exposing the overall structure.
Clearances can be set on each location folder to allow for either creation, edit or execution rights. Clearances for the creation of root and sub-elements are controlled via the navigation manager.
Hints & Tips

When creating locations, clearances should be granted to groups requiring visibility, e.g., other administrators for assignment or students for viewing as catalogue filters.

Resources can be assigned to locations and vice versa. If a course has a location assigned to it, a filter is activated when location resources are added, displaying only resources assigned to the course location. This filter can be overwritten.
