On-screen Reports
An on-screen report is a generic report for which the results are visualised in a diagram: such as a bar or pie chart. It provides the user with the most important information about the report's results “at a glance". An on-screen report can be integrated as a report panel into the portal pages.
On-screen reports have been designed for defined target groups: for example learners, superiors, tutors or administrators. It enables the user to analyse the data saved in LMS according to issues that are typical. Example: In a pie chart, supervisors can receive information on how many of their employees have registered on, started, passed, or failed courses. The size of each pie slice corresponds to the share of the queried course bookings with a particular status value.
Functions of an On-screen Report
Subscribe to an On-screen Report
Subscribers receive their report on the selected weekdays in an email attachment.
Users who are authorised to subscribe to on-screen reports see a corresponding function icon on the panel and in the detailed view of each report. Clicking the icon opens a selection of weekdays. Changes to the activated weekdays are saved automatically and effective immediately. If no weekday is selected the report is not sent.
The administrators configure which users/user groups/clients may subscribe to on-screen reports. They are able to view and delete subscriptions. To be able to subscribe to a report an external email address must be entered in the user profile and internal messages must be released for forwarding to external addresses.
Functions in the Detailed View
The detailed view of an on-screen report is from a technical perspective nothing other than a search page with an integrated diagram. This page offers relevant, familiar functions: So the user can in particular sort, group, and export the results table. The results of a "search" are the filtered raw data that the report analyses and shows graphically.
View Options
On-screen reports can have several views. Views differ in the specific analysis of the filtered data. In general, these analyses are based on different aggregation factors which may result in a different type of graphical preparation, i.e. a different diagram type. The "view options" menu in the detailed view heading bar offers the users two options:
“Switching from one view to the other”: The change takes effect immediately and rebuilds the diagram in the detailed view. Each change is automatically saved permanently. The diagram in the portal component shows the most recently selected view after the update.
"Quick display (suppress results table)"This measure is above all advantageous for large data volumes because the system responds with a short response time if only the diagram has to be recreated.
Exporting the Results Data
As for a normal search, data in the table area of an on-screen report can be exported into EXCEL and CSV format. The diagram can also be exported as an image file and as the aggregation details.
Exporting the Aggregation
The pure aggregation export provides the content of the "Aggregation" sheet from the Excel export.
Diagram Export as PNG or SVG File
The diagram export can be provided optionally as a pixel file in the PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format or as a vector graphic in the SVF (Scalable Vector Graphics) format.
Scaling
Some of the on-screen reports can be scaled, i.e. the user can select whether to display the graphic data on an hourly, daily, monthly, or annual basis. Only the scaling options that make sense in the context of the report are displayed.
