imc Express Integration

The LMS features a direct integration with imc Express (this does not refer to PENS), enabling content to be shared seamlessly without the need for downloading. Users can access imc Express via SSO from the LMS and vice versa.

Supported media types & locations in the system

WBT

WBTs can be shared in the media manager as well as in the channels.

“Editable in imc Express” is available.

WBT (Scorm)

WBT (Scorm) can be shared in the media manager.

“Editable in imc Express” is not available.

Configuration

Only the configurations to be made by LMS are described below.

Navigation

Navigation Manager

The navigation point must be set up as an external link. The URL to be entered is managed via imc Express.

Client

https://imc-doc.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FuncRef/pages/156964241/Clients+Administration#Easy-Media-Upload

Here the media type template to be used as the basis is configured (important with regard to the meta tags used).

Configuration manager

Configuration Manager - imc Express

To allow the content to be edited directly in imc Express, this system-wide setting must be filled in. If the editing feature is not relevant, this setting can be skipped.

Organisational structure and groups

Organisational Structure and Groups Administration

If access via SSO from the LMS to imc Express is to be restricted, a group can be created that is assigned the imc Express role. Only users who are part of this group can then access imc Express via SSO. If all users should be able to access imc Express via SSO, this configuration can be skipped.

Media type

The meta tags that the content should contain after the import from imc express are modified here.

The corresponding rights to the media type must be set so that they are displayed when selecting in the client.

Specific information for WBT

The following information only applies to WBT, not to WBT (Scorm).

Editable in imc Express

This feature is only valid for WBT’s there were shared via imc Express!

Editable in imc express (11878)

To enable further editing of the imported content in imc Express via a direct jump from the LMS, it is essential to include this meta tag. This tag is required for technical reasons and functions as a simple text field containing relevant data (the meta tag is not displayed anywhere). The presence or absence of the meta tag determines whether a direct jump to the content in imc Express will be available.

Languages

In the media type, that is defined in the client, languages can be entered. These languages will be considered for the content that is to be shared from imc Express to the system.

Some special aspects must be taken into account here:

  • Default languages in the LMS media type and the default language for the content in imc Express must be equal.

    • If different default languages are used and the LMS does not offer the language used in imc Express at all, this leads to an error during export.

    • imc Express, for example, also offers “English” as a language, which is not the case with the LMS. If this language is nevertheless used in imc Express, the English language available in the LMS is used, e.g. en-gb. If no English is available in the LMS at all, this leads to an error during export.

  • The system supports only 1 preview image for all languages, imc Express supports preview images for each language → the system considers the one from imc Express' default language.

  • Languages that have been added in imc Express but do not exist in the media type will be ignored.

  • Languages that have been added in the media type but do not exist in imc Express, will be marked with “gap in translation” and won’t be shown in the language selection for the user.

    • If the languages will be added later on in imc Express and shared with the system, the flag will be adapted accordingly

Update process

Metadata can be customized in both the LMS and imc Express, with any modifications in either system creating a new version of the content in the LMS.

However, it is important to note that changes made in the LMS are not visible in imc Express. For example, if the content name is changed in the LMS and later the description is updated in imc Express, the imc Express user will not see the LMS modification. As a result, when the content is re-shared from imc Express to the LMS, the old name will reappear because imc Express does not recognize the previous name change. Any changes made in imc Express after adjustments in the LMS—if affecting the same metadata fields—will overwrite the LMS modifications. Exclusive LMS fields are unaffected by this process.
