Learning Path Templates

Learning path templates serve to make the creation of learning paths simple and precise by allowing as many settings as possible to be done already at template level and thus predefined for learning paths based on the corresponding template. This unifies learning path settings with simple principles.

When creating learning path templates, a learning path type is selected on which the learning path template is based. Settings predefined at learning path type level are already preselected for the learning path template.

It is also possible not to further restrict learning path types and templates and to make all settings individually at learning path level itself.

Learning path templates basically consist of the same tabs as learning paths. All settings can be found in the learning path of a learning path template and can be further specified there if necessary. The availability of these tabs depends on the settings of the learning path type.

Learning path templates can be made directly accessible to learners via the catalogue. In this case, learning paths are selected via the learning path template.

If the meta tag is activated, the booking emails shall be sent for all courses which are part of the learning path if the user was booked on the learning path using the "Automatic booking" function.

Syllabus

Courses and course templates can be added here and grouped in folders. The order of the elements can be freely determined.

Moreover, on the Syllabus of the Learning path the sys admins are able to edit the courses which are inside the learning path. This can be easily done by selecting one of the online courses added to the learning path and click on the the Edit button. A new tab will be opened and the sys admin can easily edit and make updates to the course/course template.

The edit rights for the courses/course templates are defined in the Course Manager/Course Template Manager. Therefore, if the sys admin has rights there, he will be able to edit the courses/course templates from the learning path syllabus as well.

If not, an informative text will be displayed letting him know that he is not authorized to perform the action.

Also, multi-selection is available and in case one or 2 or more courses cannot be edited by the logged user, then that tab will not be opened and the pop-up will be displayed on the learning path syllabus page.

In addition, the sys admin will need to save the changes on the edit page of the course/course template and also must save the learning path. Otherwise, the changes will not be saved.

Rules can be created for the learning path itself, for a curriculum folder, for a course or for a course template. The rules defined at learning path template level are inherited by the learning paths based on this template.

It can be defined whether courses should be booked automatically when the learner books or is booked on the learning path. The same applies to the cancellation of the learning path, it can be defined whether the automatically booked course is also cancelled.

General Level Protection

General Level Protection can be activated for a level of learning path so that the level status remains achieved/certified even when new/additional content is added to it.  If this checkbox is active and the level is completed once, level is protected forever so that the learners do not need to do it again.

Moreover, once a learner achieves a level he/she can get a certificate when it's fully completed. This part is configurable by the admin on the Syllabus side by selecting a certificate from the dedicated field, called “Certificate of completion” available for every configured language of the selected level.

The certificate, if provided, will be available to the learner based on the following criteria:

  • If the certificate of completion is provided in the user preferred language - then the learner will get a certificate after achieving the level

    • the learner will see this change in ILP under "Certificate available" for every level achieved which has a certificate configured

  • If the certificate of completion is NOT provided in the user preferred language - then the learner will get the certificate in the provided default language on the Syllabus tab when editing a level based learning path

The admin will always need to make sure that a certificate is provided in the default language when editing a a level from the level based learning path form the Syllabus to avoid any other inconveniences and risking to not get a certificate for the achieved level.

The certificates of completion are only available for Level Based learning paths.

Administrators

At least one administrator must be assigned to each learning path template. This is done via a separate tab in the learning path template administration. For the assigned administrators, Following settings are available as well:

  • E-mail notifications: If active Administrator will receive notifications send for the learning path

  • Visibility: Defines if the administrator is shown e.g. on the details page in the catalogue

Prerequisites

Booking requirements can be defined for learning path templates. Course groups, learning paths, levels of a learning path, course templates, courses, skills and job profiles (with Add On "Skill and Competence Management") and groups are available for selection. This preselection is inherited by the learning paths based on this template.

Whether prerequisites can be edited depends on which setting was made for the underlying main type.

In addition, subsets of preconditions can be created with the possibility of specifying how many components must be fulfilled for the bundle to be considered fulfilled.
