Channel Administration

“Channel manager” is intended for all people who want to create and edit channels, add content and manage the respective access rights.

The search function allows users to search for course names and keywords. The corresponding search term is highlighted in colour in the table.

Table View

Channels are administrated in a table view which collects a sum of different functionalities.

Channel Selection

There is one checkbox per tile available and a further one at the table header. It is possible to select a single Channel or several at the same time. Only deletion is available here. If the checkbox at the table header is selected, all channels on the current page are selected and can be deleted at once.

💡 The main actions become visible when hovering over the tiles.

Publication

In the column “published” it is defined whether the channel is public or not. The unpublished status ensures that it is possible to work on the Channel without the Channel being visible to anyone.

Sorting Columns

All columns are sortable in alphabetical order besides “last updated by” and created by”

The Channel “container” consists of

  • Title

  • Description

  • Preview image

    • The recommended resolution

      • For all images in general: 1024x580 px with 16:9 aspect ratio

      • Channels images - effective size on the grid view of the tiles is 406.664px x 228.719px

    • The default images can be changed from the design folder (client design)

  • Toggle for “Published”

  • Toggle for “Media rating”

  • Keyword

  • Translations

    • Channels are based on platform languages, therefore all the languages that are configured for the system can be selected here

    • Languages that are not manually added here are not displayed to the Channel user. The same applies to languages that are added but not filled in.

Manage Content

The primary action here is to add content to the channel. However, it is also possible to add topic-related trainings, which refer to courses or learning paths (and their templates) that are related to the topic and invite to further learning.

Media

Search

The search function allows users to search for media names and keywords. The corresponding search term is highlighted in colour in the table.

Checkbox

There is one checkbox per tile available and a further one at the table header. It is possible to select a single Channel or several at the same time. Only deletion is available here. If the checkbox at the table header is selected, all channels on the current page are selected and can be deleted at once.

Drag & Drop

It is possible to add sections as well as learning content. Using the drag & drop function, it is possible to move content into the sections or from the sections into the upper area without sections. It is not possible to rearrange the order of the content itself with this functionality. For this reason, this function is only available for media, but not for topic-related trainings.

Add Media

With the function “add media” learning content from the media manager can be added to the channel.

Supported media types

1 Uploaded video HD

2 Uploaded video

3 Link HD

4 Link

The first field which is filled is shown to the learner e.g. if “Uploaded video in HD” and “Link HD” are available, then the “Uploaded video in HD” will be displayed.

Add New Section

In order to be able to subdivide the channel better, it is possible to add so-called sections, which simplify the organisation according to certain topics, for example. When hovering over a section, the actions edit, add content and delete become visible.

Sorting

Manual sorting of content is not possible, as the order is fixed and predefined. However, content from the general section can be moved to specific sections using drag-and-drop functionality.

The sorting is based on the date the content was added to the channel. If multiple items are added simultaneously, their order among each other is random. When content is moved into or out of a section, it loses its original position and is treated as if it were newly added. The display in the learner area is described here.

Final sorting is visible after saving.

Published

It is possible to schedule channel content. For example, if an editorial plan is in place for the channels, the content that has already been created can be added, and a date can be specified from which the content should only be visible to channel users.

Topic-Related Trainings

Search

The search function allows users to search for courses, course templates, learning paths, learning path templates and keywords. The corresponding search term is highlighted in colour in the table.

Checkbox

There is one checkbox per tile available and a further one at the table header. It is possible to select a single Channel or several at the same time. Only deletion is available here. Add ( + )

With this function topic related courses, course templates, learning paths and learning path templates can be added. They will be shown below the channel content. The channel user will only see the tags “course” and “learning path”, the word template won’t be contained.

Promotion of Channels in Courses and Learning Paths

It is possible to display related channels on the description page of courses, learning paths and their templates.

To do this, the meta tag 11840 must first be added to each course, learning path or template that is to be displayed. In addition, the user needs view rights to both the channel and the course, learning path or their templates.

If these preconditions are met, the channel is displayed in the instance that was added in topic-related trainings.

Preview

The preview allows the admin to see how the channel and the content it contains will be displayed to channel users. Topic-related trainings cannot be opened in the preview.

Edit

Edit

This function can be used to change the metadata of the channel. This affects all fields that were introduced when creating a new channel, e.g. to add further languages or enable/disable rating.

Clearances

Clearance

The visibility of a channel and its contents for a user is dependent on the clearance of the channel. A user needs to have at least the right “View” to see the channel. All media assigned to the channel are directly visible without checking additional media rights.

To be able to use the “Easy media upload” edit rights for a channel need to be applied to see the edit functionality in the “Channel contents” navigation item.

Automatic Subscription

If the slider is set to “On”, this user, group or client is taken into account for automatic subscription. There are a few notes to consider:

  • Users can cancel their subscription, but it is not possible to automatically re-subscribe these users.

  • If a group has been added for automatic subscription and new users are added to this group later on, these users will also be subscribed subsequently.

  • Removing users/groups/clients from the automatic subscription (after having them added initially) does not result in the subscription being removed.

  • Users who have already a subscription for that channel or are not in any of the groups added to this automatic subscription functionality will not be affected by this

  • If the channel was not yet published but will be published at some point in time, then the users/groups/clients will be automatically subscribed

  • If users are removed from a group/client the subscription will remain

Edit Notifications

Channel Notifications

In addition it is possible to decide per Channel, if subscribers should be notified about changes or not. A new option per Channel is available to “edit notifications”. Per notification

  • Media update of a subscribed channel

  • New media for subscribed channel

  • Automatic subscription for a channel

For each of these notifications it can be decided, if subscribers should receive a notification. The default value (if active or inactive) is taken from the notification manager. The values can be overwritten per channel.

(warning) This setting only tells the notification manager whether it may send a notification or not, as soon as the toggle is set from false to true, the notification manager receives the information that it is allowed to send the notifications as configured.

Further Functions

Reporting

Channel media consumption report evaluates the popularity of media items within the channels, and how often the media are opened within the channels. The channel media consumption report can help the channel administrator to monitor the relevancy of media in the channel check whether Information provided through the channel reached the target group

Dashboard Panels

Two different panels can be created for the channels:

  • One panel lists all new content of the subscribed channels

  • The other panel allows quick access to all subscribed channels

Panel - Channel

ID=185 The channel panel is a system panel for displaying user-personalized channel content to learners. It can display either the subscribed channels or the channel feed.
