Skills & Competencies represent a skill-focused approach to managing the learning management system (as compared to, e.g., gamification or clean communication). The functionality has to be purchased and can be activated in the license manager. Skills can be added and clustered into job profiles. Job Profiles are assigned to users, while skills are assigned to the content. The user can then search for specific content to close his skill gap for a certain job profile.
Benefits
"Competency management" is popular for organisations that have competency driven training requirements. Here learners are generally assigned Job Profiles that provide a list of Skills, along with the levels, that are required to be achieved via completing training or assessments.

Steps to configure
To configure the "Skills & Competencies" module please follow these steps.

Request a new licence with "Skills & Competency Management" module activated and once response is received apply the new licence.

Active the navigation "Skills", "Job profiles", "Skill levels", "Skill structure" and "Job profile templates"; in doing so provide "Access rights" to required groups.

Provide clearance on the "Default" job profile and simplify the fields.

Check the course types and learning path types to ensure the "Skills" tab has been enabled.

Assign the skills and job profiles reports to the "Compliance" report category.

Check clearances on the skills and job profiles reports.

Check that the “Competency notifications” are enabled.

Create a new schedule cron job for "Skills termination" and/or “Skill expiration”

Create a menu for "Staff pool" if importing of skill assignments and use of the "Staff comparison" are required.
