Learning Path - Cumulative Skills and Certifications

The Cumulative Skills and Certifications feature (requires the Skill and Competency Management add-on) gives learners and administrators a clear forecast of the outcomes a learning path will deliver — in terms of both skills gained and certification credits earned.

  1. Aggregate skill targets across courses — When multiple courses in a learning path contribute to the same skill, the system automatically calculates and displays the combined target value. For example, if Course 1 awards 20 points toward "Project Management" and Course 2 awards 30 points, the learning path will show a cumulative target of 50 points.

  2. Show the highest achievable skill level — For level-based skills, the system displays the highest level reachable across all courses in the path. If courses contribute Level 2 and Level 3 of the same skill, learners will see Level 3 as the outcome.

  3. Sum up certification credits — Certification hours from individual courses are totalled at the learning path level. If two courses contribute 3 and 2 hours respectively toward a certification, the learning path displays 5 hours.

  4. Surface outcomes in the catalogue and description pages — All accumulated skills and certifications are visible to learners directly in the learning path catalogue and on the learning path description page, so they can make informed decisions before enrolling.

  5. Handle syllabus flexibility — Since learning paths may include rules like "complete 3 out of 5 courses," the displayed values act as a forecast of what learners can expect to achieve.

This is configured at the learning path type level, where you can independently enable or disable cumulative skills and certifications. The corresponding buttons then become available in both the learning path template and the learning path itself.
