General Information about the Channel Review Guard
With product version 29.0, Scheer IMC integrates AI-based comment moderation into the imc Learning Suite. The feature is available as part of the Channels function and assists administrators in identifying comments that potentially violate netiquette rules.
For information on how to configure and use the feature, please see: Channel Administration - Review Manager and Configuration Manager - Channels.
General Information
When a user submits a comment in a channel, the comment text is automatically sent to an AI model for assessment. The model evaluates the comment based on a configurable prompt and returns a result indicating whether the comment is acceptable or potentially violates netiquette. Comments identified as violations are flagged in the Review Manager for administrators to review.
The assessment is performed at the time of submission. Administrators can then decide whether to hide the flagged comment or confirm it as acceptable. Moderation is a proactive task. Administrators are not notified when new comments are submitted. The Review Manager must be checked regularly to stay on top of incoming content. Comments remain visible to all users until an administrator explicitly hides them. No comment is hidden automatically.
Third-Party Providers
The following AI service is used to provide comment moderation:
-
Ollama: an open-source tool for running large language models (LLMs) locally, used here to assess comment content against the configured moderation rules.
Ollama is the only supported AI service for this feature. It is not possible to connect a custom or third-party AI model.
Hosting
The Ollama service used for AI comment moderation is hosted and operated by Scheer IMC. All comment content sent to the AI model is processed exclusively within Scheer IMC-managed infrastructure and does not leave Scheer IMC's environment.
Scheer IMC does not develop proprietary AI models. The AI model running on the Ollama instance is an open-source model operated solely within Scheer IMC's own infrastructure.
The feature is available to all customers, regardless of hosting model. For on-premise installations, the same general prerequisites apply as for any other Scheer IMC service.
Activation & Deactivation
Activation
AI comment moderation requires a deployment configuration to be set up by Scheer IMC before it can be used. The following steps are required:
-
The deployment of the Ollama service must be requested via the Scheer IMC Service Desk.
-
Once the service has been deployed, the feature can be enabled per channel in the
-
The scheduled job ChannelMediaAiCommentModeration must be configured to run regularly — by default nightly — to process newly submitted comments.
Deactivation
The feature can be disabled at any time by turning off the Enable AI Review Moderation setting in the Configuration Manager. If the Ollama service deployment should also be removed, this can be requested via the Scheer IMC Service Desk.
Data Protection
To provide the AI comment moderation functionality, comment text submitted by users is transferred from the imc Learning Suite to the Ollama service for assessment.
Data processed
The following data is transferred to the AI model for each comment submitted in a channel where AI moderation is enabled:
-
The text content of the comment
No user identifiers, names, or other personal data are included in the request to the AI model.
Processing and retention
Comment content is not processed immediately upon submission. The “ChannelMediaAiCommentModeration” scheduled job must be running to trigger the moderation assessment — by default, this job is configured to run nightly. Until the job runs, newly submitted comments are queued for processing and remain unassessed.
During processing, the comment text is sent to the Ollama service for assessment and is not stored or retained beyond the duration of the individual request. Only the moderation result — whether the comment was identified as a potential violation — is stored within the imc Learning Suite. No metrics or usage data are collected or logged.
No use for model training
Comment content is not used to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop machine learning models.
Infrastructure
All data processing takes place within Scheer IMC-managed environment. No comment content is transmitted to external services or third parties.
Legal basis
The processing of comment content for moderation purposes is carried out:
-
pursuant to Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract), insofar as the processing is necessary for providing the agreed moderation functionality;
-
pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest), namely to maintain a respectful and constructive environment within the platform.
Customers are advised to inform their users that comments submitted in channels with AI moderation enabled are assessed by an AI model as part of the moderation process.
