Term

Description

Academa Content Connector

Enables the integration of Academa content into the imc Learning Suite via an easy-to-use assistant.

Note: Academa license is not included in the standard package. 3rd party license required.

Administrator

In the Vanilla database, system administrators are the highest-level role, with access to most functions and the highest level of permissions. There may be various administrator roles, each of which can be assigned specific permissions depending on requirements, e.g.

  • User Administrator: responsible for user imports, group imports, etc.

  • Content Administrator: responsible for creating and managing course content

  • Course Administrator: responsible for creating and managing courses and learning paths

In principle, it is possible to configure additional administrator roles.

Cancel

Used in the context of enrolments, such as:

  • courses

  • learning paths

  • course status

Also used in the context of processes, such as:

  • Assignment of job profiles

  • Sending feedback

  • Deleting an account

  • tests

Catalogue

A collection of learning content (media, courses, learning paths) that users can search through and use to enrol in courses and learning paths or request to take part

Certified Credit Management (Certification Management)

Functions to setup and manage the certified training activities with the associated Continued Professional Development (CPD) learning hours or points.

Channels

Functions to setup and manage Channels to provide Learners with topic-specific, easy-to-consume content and encourage self-directed learning.

Note: Channels license is not included in the standard package.

Clearance (ACL)

Access control: restricts access to data and functions; an “Access Control List” (ACL) determines the extent to which individual users and system processes have access to specific objects (assignment of permissions).

Client

Clients serve as master domains or tenants that can be used to logically divide a single physical system into multiple partial systems. Any number of Clients can be created with their own specific settings, configurations, rules, interfaces and even skin design.

Content Management

Functions to manage the creation, upload, versioning, tagging, controlling and management of content objects in the system through a centralised media management area.

Course

Containers for learning content such as WBTs, videos, tests, feedback, etc.

Course administrator

Responsible for course enrolment, receiving course enrolment messages and course requests to be up to date about course enrolments

Course manager

is a tutor role with different functional rights in the tutor center (configuration dependent)

Easy course creation (ECC)

Simplified course creation process based on predefined configuration settings

Easy media upload

Option for users of Channels and ECC to make new learning content available easily and straightforwardly

Effectiveness Check

Functions to setup and manage effectiveness checks for users through the creation and assignment of non-anonymous evaluation forms.

Enrolment

Used in the system in relation to courses and learning paths (not registration or sign-up)

Enrolment Messages

Emails that are sent automatically when a learner’s status changes in relation to a course or learning path. Recipients may include the learner him/herself, the course administrator, the supervisor, and any other recipients specified.

Feedback

Functions to manage the creation, organisation, delivery, and reporting on evaluation and survey forms.

Gamification Engine

Functions to setup and manage the experience points and badges users gain for completing learning activities and achieving milestones.

Integration Framework

Option, for example, to integrate content from external content providers via content integration, or to establish interfaces with third-party systems, for example to import users

iOS & Android Apps

With the App, learners can learn everywhere, even at home or on their way to work. Focus on Learner role

Languages Framework

The base platform of the imc Learning Suite is available in more than 44 languages. The multi-language functionality facilitates content management and creation.

Learning Analytics

Learning Analytics is embedded in Microsoft Power BI and enables dashboard-based, faster, and more accurate business process decisions based on trends, comparisons, and root cause analyses.

Learning path

Container for courses, can be structured by content or level

Level

Depending on the context, the term ‘level’ is used, for example, in relation to skills or learning pathways, or to denote a hierarchical level within a tree structure in group or catalogue structures

LinkedIn Learning Connector

Provides the ability to integrate LinkedIn Learning content offerings into the imc Learning Suite via an easy-to-use wizard.

Note: LinkedIn Learning license is not included in the standard package.

Learner

Simplest role in the system with the fewest functional capabilities and minimum permissions

LMS

Stands for Learning Management System. Scheer IMC’s LMS is called imc Learning Suite.

Meazure Learning Connector

Enables integration with the Meazure Learning exam service Record+ to provide secure online examination and assessment environments for learners. Note: Meazure Learning license is not included in the standard package.

Media

All content of various types that can be created and managed in the Media Manager (monolingual or multilingual); all learning content must be published in order to be available to learners in courses, catalogues, channels or the media library.

In the system language, the term ‘Media’ is usually used, although the term ‘Learning content’ is sometimes used as well.

Mentor

This applies only to on-the-job trainings that are not course-based; he evaluates these

Microsoft Teams Connector

Provides support for the creation of Microsoft Teams groups directly from within the LMS.

Note: Microsoft Teams license is not included in the standard package.

Moderator

Is a tutor role with different functional rights in the tutor center (configuration dependent)

Notifications

Notifications sent by the system to learners, supervisors and tutors, triggered by various factors (which may be time-based or event-based). These notifications are sent automatically or manually by an administrator.

On The Job Training

Functions for setting up and managing on-the-job training tasks to be completed by learners. The results of the tasks can be uploaded. Feedback on task completion can be provided by learners and mentors.

Open ID Connect Single Sign On Connector

Connector to allow for authentication of the imc Learning Suite with an OpenID Identity Provider.

Organisational Structure and Groups

Functions to manage the organisation structure and the assignment of detailed access rights and permissions for organisational units, user groups or individual users.

Org Structure Connector (csv/xml)

Provides a connection to an external system for an organisational structure import using an Scheer IMC provided SFTP folder and Client generated CSV/XML file.

Participant

User which is enroled on a course or learning path

Participant Management

Functions to manage event-driven workflow controls to support managing courses, programs, curriculums, and certification pathways (enrolments, approvals, cancellations).

Pluralsight Content Connector

Enables the integration of Pluralsight content into the imc Learning Suite via an easy-to-use assistant.

Note: Pluralsight license is not included in the standard package.

Recommendation Engine

Functions to automatically recommend courses to learners based on intelligent algorithms considering users' interests, previous learning, and other data held.

Referent

Is a tutor role with different functional rights in the tutor center (configuration dependent)

Registration

Creating a user in the system

Report

The term “report” is always used to refer to various reports, such as course progress or the analysis of test results.

Reporting

Functions to manage the creation and organisation of reports for the evaluation of the system use, activity, and results of learning activities.

Resource Management

Functions to setup and manage physical resources for classroom-based learning activities with a resource calendar to view the availability of a resource.

SAML2.0 Single Sign On Connector

Connector to allow for authentication of the imc Learning Suite with a SAML2.0 Identity Provider.

Shopify Connector

Enables a user to use the Shopify e-commerce platform to allow users to pay for courses via the Shopify cart and checkout functionality.

Skill

Is always used as a collective term for abilities, aptitudes and competencies

Skills & Competencies

Functions to create, manage, and review the job profiles, skills, and associated skill levels.

Social Learning

Functions to manage the setup and assignment of informal learning activities including forums and user communities/ communities of interest for the sharing of knowledge between users.

Standard User

A standard user can have various roles, such as learner, administrator, etc., each with different permissions

Supervisor / Superior

Supervisor is a person who has the authority to manage or to enrol his employees on courses or confirme or decline course requests made by his employees

Super User

Users who have full access to all active navigation elements, functions and objects (including all users) regardless of clearance (without any permission restrictions)

Task Management

Functions to setup and manage task lists to support organisational activities required to set up training.

Testing

Functions for managing test questions and tests, as well as reporting on test results

Training

This term is only used in the context of on-the-job training; The term “training” is not used to refer to courses.

Trainer

is a tutor role with different functional rights in the tutor center (configuration dependent)

Tutor role

Option to configure different tutor roles, each with a distinct set of functions relating to participants, the curriculum and the courses assigned to them.

User

Each person who has an account in the system

User Data Connector (csv/scim)

Provides a connection to an external system (HR / Payroll / CRM System) to automatically create, update, and activate/deactivate users in the LMS.  Compatible with csv/sftp upload and SCIM API.

Virtual Classroom Connector (Adobe Connect)

Enables connection to the Adobe Connect Meetings platform for delivery and management of virtual classroom activities directly from the LMS.

Virtual Classroom Connector (GoToMeeting)

Enables connection to the GoToMeeting platform for delivery and management of virtual classroom activities directly from the LMS.

Virtual Classroom Connector (GoToWebinar)

Enables connection to the GoToWebinar platform for delivery and management of virtual classroom activities directly from the LMS.

Enables connection to the Vitero platform for delivery and management of virtual classroom activities directly from the LMS.

Enables connection to the WebEx platform for delivery and management of virtual classroom activities from the imc Learning Suite.
