AI Services
Innovation Pack 14.23 introduces functionalities to the imc Learning Suite that support administrators in creating content with the help of AI. These are:
This article provides general information about the AI services and gives you an overview of the requirements for using the AI services, data protection aspects and the free trial period. Comprehensive information on the individual functionalities can be found in the release notes and in the corresponding section in the functional reference.
Prerequisites for the use of AI services
In order for the AI services of the imc Learning Suite to be used, several prerequisites relating to the operation of the system must be met. The AI services are generally available for all customer systems that are hosted in the imc Microsoft Azure Cloud. This is already the case for most imc customers.
The AI services of the imc Learning Suite are not available for:
systems that are hosted by a cloud provider other than Microsoft Azure Cloud (e.g. AWS, IONOS, GreenIT, PlusServer)
systems that are operated in the customer's own data centre (on-premise installations)
In addition to the technical requirements (hosting model), the AI services must be activated via the user interface. You can find more information on this in the corresponding section in the functional reference.
If you are unsure which operating model your imc Learning Suite instance is hosted in, please contact the imc Account Management Team.
Used third-party services
The AI services of the imc Learning Suite use services from the Microsoft Azure Cloud. These are currently:
Microsoft Azure AI Translator
Microsoft Azure AI Service (DALL-E 3)
These services are operated for use with the imc Learning Suite in imc's own Microsoft Azure Subscription. No publicly accessible AI services from Microsoft are used to process the requests. The data is processed exclusively in imc's own Microsoft Azure Subscription.
The following table gives you an overview of the hosting regions used by the imc Learning Suite and the associated hosting regions of the services used by the AI services.
Hosting Region imc Learning Suite | Hosting Region Microsoft Azure AI Translator | Hosting Region Microsoft Azure AI Service (DALL-E 3) |
---|---|---|
USA (z.B. CLOUD-US) | East US 2 | East US 2 |
Asia (z.B. CLOUD-SG) | Southeast Asia | Australia East |
Australia (z.B. CLOUD-AU) | Australia East | Australia East |
Europe North (z.B. CLOUD-EU) | Europe North | Sweden |
UK South (z.B. CLOUD-UK) | UK South | Sweden |
Switzerland North (z.B. CLOUD-CH) | Switzerland North | Sweden |
For imc Learning Suite instances hosted in the EU, all data remains in the EU.
Data protection and security
To use the AI services of the imc Learning Suite, data must be transferred from the imc Learning Suite instance to the Microsoft Azure AI services described. The following data is transferred:
AI translations
If you want to automatically translate one or more texts for a supported content, the following data is transferred: the text entered in the meta tag selected for translation.
AI image generation
If you want to generate a preview image for supported content, the following data is transferred for the content as part of a predefined prompt:
name of the content (content of the meta tag Name (10000))
description of the content (content of the meta tag Description (10001))
All of the aforementioned data is transmitted solely for the purpose of performing the service and is not used, stored or transmitted to other third parties by Microsoft. In particular, the transferred texts are not used to train other AI models, some of which are freely available. This ensures that your sensitive information, which may be contained in course descriptions, for example, is not made accessible to the public through the use of the AI services of the imc Learning Suite.
Feedback on the AI services
In order to provide imc with simple and uncomplicated anonymous feedback on the quality of the AI services used, imc Learning Suite instances hosted in the imc Standard Cloud in the EU (CLOUD-EU) have the option of evaluating the results of the AI services by means of a thumb rating. The following data is transmitted to imc:
value of the thumb rating (thumbs up / thumbs down)
product area from which the evaluation was submitted
user comment (optional, only in the case of a negative thumb rating)
No company or personal data is transmitted. It is therefore not possible for imc to trace which person or which customer provided the feedback.
Free trial period
The AI services of the imc Learning Suite can be trialled as part of a three-month free trial period exclusively as part of Innovation Pack 14.23. The following quotas also apply during the free trial period:
AI translations: a total of 750,000 characters in the source language, incl. HTML markup
AI image generation: a total of 100 images generated
For AI translations, the text length of the source language is used as the basis for calculation, which is multiplied by the number of target languages. For example, if a 2,000-character text is translated into three target languages, 2,000 characters x 3 languages = 6,000 characters of the quota will be used. A text is always automatically translated into all languages that are assigned to the respective content. It is not possible to limit the translation to individual languages.
The free trial period begins with the installation of the update to version 14.23, regardless of the activation of the AI services in the user interface.
The AI services can generally be used in all system environments (test and production systems). The usage restrictions described above apply independently for each system environment. In the case of a multi-client system, the quotas apply across all clients.
Exceeding the quotas and end of the free trial period
Once the quotas of the free trial period have been used up or the three-month free trial period has expired, the AI services can no longer be used without a paid subscription. If you attempt to translate further texts or generate preview images, you will be notified accordingly in the user interface.
The quotas described can be used independently of each other. Once the quota of one service has been used up, the other service can continue to be used until this quota has also been used up or the three-month free trial period has expired.
For further information on the future use of AI services and a corresponding offer, please contact the imc Account Management Team.
Deactivation of AI services
If you no longer wish to use the AI services of the imc Learning Suite, you can simply deactivate them via the system's user interface. You can find more information on this in the functional reference.
Texts or generated images translated by the AI services are retained after the AI services are deactivated and can continue to be used without restriction.
